Record 1, McCain 0
I have been hearing about John McCain, so a quick reminder. Far from being a maverick, he has pandered relentlessly in his quest for the presidency. However, the popular press has a short attention span. I direct you to Exhibit A and Exhibit B.

I used to like John McCain
But now he gives me a pain.
He was a Bush critic
But it seems to this cynic
He’s switched his positions for gain.
His opposition to torture
Is open to forfeiture
For embracing Gitmo George.
He’ll reform campaign finance
Unless if by some chance
There’s a banquet at which he can gorge.
And suddenly the religious right
Is dandy in his new light
Of forgetting when they were his scourge.
Nobody should misconstrue
His new affection for W.
John’s running for president,
Meaning values once resident
Have all been flushed down the loo.

McCain walks a line somewhere between pandering and probity. I actually find this a welcome difference from the complete groveling of the other Republican candidates toward the pop conservative issue of the day.
McCain also contrasts well with President Bush, who shamelessly colors all history and lies profusely without any apparent guilt.
Of the Republicans, McCain is definitely the statesman of the bunch.
I must appreciatively admit that Ron Paul is honest and direct with his opinions. However, his hope to return the US dollar to the Gold Standard is not a realistic view in economics. There is not enough gold in the world to accommodate such a proposal without wildly inflating gold values.
But alas, Edwards was my man.
